YouTube Audit tool

With the support of the Media Cymru Development Fund, Dark Arts has spent the last 12 months exploring the challenges of ‘digital decay’ on YouTube. Digital decay is a pervasive problem that silently undermines the value and reach of music catalogues on the worlds biggest video platform, impacting both current revenue and long-term artist legacy.

Digital content is frozen in time at the moment it is uploaded, meanwhile, platforms, features and user behaviour evolve at pace. That means that older content must be kept up-to-date with current best practises or it starts to age. However the process of keeping vast quantities of video IP updated is a huge challenge for rightsholders.

To help address this challenge Dark Arts has developed a YouTube Audit tool which extracts data from any Official Artist Channel (OAC) on YouTube and produces a detailed assessment of the health of uploaded video content and where optimisations and updates should be made. By automating what was previously a manual process, the tool offers artist teams complete visibility and a road map to improvement without taking up valuable bandwidth.
